It is important to track every child's Progress within your setting, by doing this you are able to plan for the appropriate next steps for these children and, therefore, their learning and development will move forward at an appropriate rate.

Tracking individual Progress is extremely important as it ensures that you are covering the whole of the EYFS in the appropriate way for every child in your setting, in addition individual needs and unexpected developmental patterns can be identified early and accurately shared with parents and professionals.

Baby's Days has a Progress section for every child on the system, this allows you to add achievement dates, Progress / Assessment notes and Progress photographs to every Development Matter within an Aspect of each Area of Learning ie: CD, CLL, PD etc, the Progress section is a complete and comprehensive Learning Journey for every child on your system, not a tick sheet but a detailed journey of each child's developmental achievements through their Early Years.

The Progress section on the system is compatible with the Dragon speech to text software that can be integrated with your Baby's Days system, speak to your system instead of typing into your system to save you even more time!

Key Areas of the Progress & Assessment Scales section:

  • A help manual is available to assist you in adding Progress and Assessment Scales to the system.
  • Adding the date a child achieved a specific Development Matter is a simple one click mouse operation.
  • Next Step notes can be added within the Progress section and appear within the Child's Individual Learning Plans.
  • Upload an unlimited number of photographs to each Development Matter.
  • Add an Audio clip to every photograph you upload to the child's Progress. Click here for more information.

Every Photograph that you upload to a Child's Progress can have it's own unique Audio clip recorded onto it, either you or the child whose Progress section you are updating can record the audio, when you or the parents view the Progress section and see the photographs, they can also listen to the Audio clip that was recorded onto the photograph, more information regarding Audio clips on Photographs, can be found by following this link.

Print or Save the Progress to disk.

If you need to print or save a child's Progress to your PC, this is a very simple process of clicking the print icon when viewing any Progress page, the system will open a new page and display a created .pdf document, this document can then be printed, saved to your PC or even emailed to the parent or the school.

Overall Statistics

At the top of every section of the Progress and Assessment Scales is the Child's overall Statistics displayed in an easy to understand format, displaying the total number of Development Matters, the number they have completed and the % complete.

Child not started / Back date Progress

Child not started / Back Date:

Child not started / Back Date Progress

The Child not started / Back Date Progress option allows you to decide if you want to be able to add achievement dates to a child's Development Matters within the Progress section when the child was not in your setting.

For example if a child started in your setting aged 24 months, you can decide if you want to add achievement dates to Development Matters within the Birth - 11 months and 8 months to 20 months Development Matters. If you do not want to add achievement dates to those Development Matters, the system will disable these Development Matters stating that the child was not in your care when the child was at the recommended age for the Development Matter.

Recommendation: We recommend you do not back date a child's Progress as you are probably not aware of the date that a child achieved a particular Development Matter as they were not in your care.

Development Matters within the Aspects

Development Matters:

Development Matters

Every area of the EYFS has Development Matters that should be monitored and their progress for each one recorded by the carer, this screenshot shows one Aspect from CD - Creative Development, this Aspect lists every Development Matter, the recommended Development age that the Child should have achieved this Development Matter, an alert section where an alert icon will appear if this Development Matter has not been completed and the Child has passed the recommended development age and an area for the carer to add the date the Child achieved that area.

Placing your mouse over the information icon provides you with examples off each section.

An achievement date for each Development Matter can be added along with progress notes and progress photographs.

Adding Achievement Dates to Development Matters

Adding Achievement Dates:

Adding Achievement Dates

Adding achievement dates to the Progress section is a simple process of clicking within the date box where a calendar appears, select the date to add to the system and the date is instantly added, in addition, the name of the admin who added the date is also added to the system and displayed within the section.

In addition when a date is added to an area within the Progress section, the same date is added at the same time to the relevant section within the Assessment Scales, thus saving the admin having to enter the date twice within the Assessment Scales and the Progress section.

Assessment Scales

Assessment Scales:

Assessment Scales Sample

This is a screenshot taken from the Assessment Scales: KUW - Knowledge and Understanding of the World area, date entry and information works the same way as the Progress sections.

In addition when a date is added to an area within the Assessment Scales, the same date is added at the same time to the relevant section within the Progress, thus saving the admin having to enter the date twice within the Assessment Scales and the Progress section.

Add Evidence & Progression Notes to a Development Matter

Add Evidence and Progress Notes:

Evidence & Progression Notes

Within the Progress section, Evidence and Progression notes for each child can be added, these notes are used to provide evidence that you are working towards their Developments Goals or a child has achieved the Development Matter and what they did to achieve it.

At the bottom of each Progress section you can add a note to appear below the relevant Development Matter.

It is always good to show evidence and progression for each Development Matter, if a child is still working towards a particular Development Matter, add notes on their Progress, ie: Baby tried to take a few steps today but didn't quite make it, just a few days and she will be walking confidently.

Once a child has completed a Development Matter there is no requirement to continue adding Progress notes to this Development Matter, work with them to achieve new Development Matters and keep adding their Progress along the way.

Evidence & progression Photographs and Audio

Select Photograph:

Photo within a Development Matter:

Photo within a Development Matter

Within every Progress Area of Learning, you can upload an unlimited number of Evidence and Progression photographs for each child, these photographs are used to provide evidence that you are working towards their Development Matters or they have achieved them.

In addition, you or the child whose Progress you are updating can add an Audio recording of up to 1 minute onto each Photograph, when you or the parents view the Progress online they can see the photographs and also playback an Audio recording with the photograph, more information regarding these Audio recordings can be seen by following this link.

To upload a photograph you click on the + sign on the Development Matter row in the Focus Area you want this photograph to be associated with, in the screenshots examples we selected the Development Matter: Begins to make believe by pretending. This was located within CD - Creative Development and was in the Focus Area: Developing Imagination and Imaginative Play.

On the new window that appears you select the photograph you want to upload and add a title and description, then click on the upload photograph.

Now in the Development Matter row you just uploaded this photograph to, a picture icon appears, clicking on this will open a lightbox effect allowing you to view the photograph plus any others that have been uploaded to this Development Matter, you can also leave additional comments to this photograph.

In addition, every photograph that has ever been uploaded to each child's Progress will appear within a main Progress photo gallery in Development Area category order.

Add "Next Step" notes to the ILP notes section

Enter the Progress Note:

Enter the Progress Note

Select Development Matter:

Select Development Matter

Whilst completing a child's Progress you will uncover some "Next Steps" that you would like to work with the Child, rather than writing these down or losing them on a Post It note, you can add them directly from the Progress section, simply enter the Next Step in the note section at the bottom of the page and link this Next Step with a Development Matter, as soon as you save the note it will appear within their Individual Learning Plan notes section so that you can assign these notes to a plan for the week so you can work with the child on her Next Steps.

Once the child has completed the Next Step, you don't need to come back to the progress section and add the date in the Development Matter it is linked with because the system will automatically add the date for you as soon as you mark the Next Step note as completed by the child.

"Customer Quotes"

"My parents have shown nothing but enthusiasm for Baby's Days, they love the photo's added to the diaries and the photo gallery. Have been impressed with the EYFS portfolio I was able to give them to hand over to the child's other care setting. I have two grandparents who have also enjoyed looking at the diaries and the photo's. Especially one that lives a long way from the children."
