The EYFS places strong emphasis on meeting children's individual needs in your setting, it expects practitioners to meet children's individual needs and support them in taking the next steps in their development, it is very important that you note each child's Next Steps in their learning and link these Next Steps into your planning either on a weekly/daily basis within a group or on a weekly/daily basis individually with the child.
Baby's Days allows you to add Next Step notes for each child at various areas on the system, including the child's Progress page, Focused Plan page and the child's ILP Next Step notes section.
Once a Next Step note has been added to the system for the child you can assign this note to an Individual Learning Plan for the child, once the note has been marked as completed the system will automatcially add the date the Next Step was completed to the linked Development Matter in the child's Progress.
Every Individual Learning Plan you have ever created for each child on the system is saved and can be quickly and easily displayed, so you demonstrate exactly how you have been working with each child's individual learning needs / Next Steps.
The Individual Learning Plans section on the system is compatible with the Dragon speech to text software that can be integrated with your Baby's Days system, speak to your system instead of typing into your system to save you even more time!
Key Areas of the Individual Learning Plans - Next Steps sections:
- A help manual is available to assist you with children's Individual Learning Plans on the system.
- Individual Learning Plans are created to assign a child's Next Step notes to a plan so that you can work with them to achieve them.
- You can assign as many or as few Next Step notes to a weekly ILP plan, maybe you just want to use one Next Step note per week.
- Each Next Step note can be linked to a Development Matter, then when the Next Step is achieved and marked as completed the date gets automatically added to the selected Development Matter within the child's Progress.
- Next Step notes can be added from the ILP page, within the child's Progress and within a child's Focused Plans.
- Individual Learning Plans are assigned to Children for specified weeks.

Add a Next Step note
|
Add a Next Step note:
|
Adding new notes to use in a Child's Individual Learning Plan is a simple process, these are added from within the Child's ILP section, and also from the Next Steps area of their Progress and Focused Plans.
Firstly select the Area of Learning then then the Aspect and finally select the Development Matter this new note will be linked to within their Progress section, then add the note for the Child.
This note will then be instantly added and be able to be used within a new Plan for this Child.
As soon as you have assigned this note to a plan and marked it as complete, the selected Development Matter within the child's Progress will have the date that you assigned added to it marking it as complete.
|
Add a Next Step note from within a Focused Plan
|
Focused Plans - Add a Next Step note:
|
In addition to adding Next Step notes from the main ILP section of the system, you can also add notes from the Next Steps section of any Focused Plan, it is particularly important that once you have carried out a Focused Plan with a Child you ensure you cater for their future development goals.
When you complete a Child's Focused Plan, which would include the Observations, Aspects of learning observed and the areas of learning observed, you want to be sure you add any Next Steps for this Child, this simple process of adding a Next Step note from the Focused Plan will ensure their needs are not forgotten.
As soon as you save your completed Focused Plan, the note is instantly saved to the Child's ILP notes so they can be assigned to a future Individual Learning Plan for the Child.
If this feature wasn't available it is possible that you may forget about this Child's future individual needs.

Add a Next Step note from within the Progress section
|
Progress - Add a Next Step note:
Progress - Add a Next Step note:
|
Whilst completing a child's Progress you will uncover some "Next Steps" that you would like to work with the Child, rather than writing these down or losing them on a Post It note, you can add them directly from the Progress section, simply enter the Next Step in the note section at the bottom of any Area of Learning/Aspect page within the Child's Progress and link this Next Step with a Development Matter, as soon as you save the note it will appear within their Individual Learning Plan Next Step notes section so that you can assign these notes to a plan for the week.
Once the child has completed the Next Step, you don't need to go back to the progress section and add the date in the Development Matter it is linked with because the system will automatically add the date for you as soon as you mark the Next Step note as completed by the child.
